VHS Tapes
The VHS format has undoubtably been one of the most popular recording formats since it's introduction to the market in the 1970's.
The most common degradation that occurs with this format is mould build up. This is increasingly a problem in warm, humid climates like in Australia. In many cases, this can be removed by meticulous restoration. Audioviz can provide this service for as little as $10 - $20 per tape.
8mm Videotapes
8mm video cassette tapes first entered the consumer market in the mid 1980's, and were a popular choice due to their small form factor. The format was used in various iterations up until the mid 2000's.
Unfortunately though, we are increasingly seeing degredation in this particular format. The most common problem is oxidation, which can lead to the tape tearing apart whilst rewinding, or playing back. If you still have any 8mm tapes that haven't been converted to digital, we highly recommend having them inspected for deterioration before they are beyond the point of salvaging.
